5-Day Desert Adventure from Marrakech

Day 1: Marrakech – Telouet – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate

Kick off your journey bright and early, departing from Marrakech and heading toward the south. Cross the majestic High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka pass, offering sweeping views of valleys and traditional Berber villages.

Make a stop at the Kasbah of Telouet, once home to the influential Glaoui family. Explore its fading grandeur and learn about its storied past. Continue through the lush Ounila Valley, dotted with earthen homes and green fields.

By afternoon, arrive at the iconic Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO-listed fortified village that has captured the imagination of filmmakers and travelers alike. End your day in Ouarzazate, the gateway to the desert, where you’ll spend the night in a comfortable local hotel.

Day 2: Ouarzazate – Skoura – Valley of Roses – Dades Gorges

After breakfast, visit the historical Kasbah Taourirt, followed by the Kasbah Amridil in Skoura — a well-preserved gem nestled among palm groves.

Travel along the scenic Valley of Roses, especially enchanting in spring when the roses bloom in vibrant color. Continue your route to the Dades Valley, renowned for its striking rock formations and dramatic canyons.

Spend the evening in a charming guesthouse in the heart of the Dades Gorges, surrounded by natural beauty and tranquility.

Day 3: Dades – Todra Gorges – Erfoud – Merzouga (Erg Chebbi Dunes)

Begin your day with a visit to the towering Todra Gorges, where sheer limestone cliffs rise dramatically above a winding river.

After lunch, head toward Erfoud, a town famous for fossils and date production. Then continue to the edge of the Sahara Desert and the village of Merzouga.

Here, you’ll mount your camel for a sunset ride across the majestic Erg Chebbi dunes. As the evening sky turns golden, arrive at your desert camp, where a traditional Moroccan dinner awaits, followed by Berber music around the fire beneath the stars.

Day 4: Merzouga – Nkob – Zagora

Wake up to the stillness of the desert and, if you wish, catch the sunrise before breakfast. Depart Merzouga and journey through off-the-beaten-path desert landscapes toward Zagora.

Stop along the way in small Berber villages and visit Tamegroute, home to a historic Islamic library and traditional green pottery workshops. Spend the night in Zagora in a peaceful hotel, soaking up the Saharan ambiance.

Day 5: Zagora – Ouarzazate – Marrakech

After breakfast, begin the journey back to Marrakech, retracing your path through the Draâ Valley and the High Atlas Mountains.

Along the way, enjoy opportunities to pause for photos, short walks, or a relaxed lunch. You’ll arrive in Marrakech by late afternoon or early evening, where your tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel or riad.
