3-Day Desert Tour from Fes to Marrakech

Day 1: From Marrakech to Dades Gorges – Through Mountains, Kasbahs & Oases

Your adventure begins in the morning as we depart from Marrakech, heading into the heart of the High Atlas Mountains. The road climbs through the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka Pass, where sweeping mountain views and scattered Berber hamlets offer plenty of chances to stop and take in the scenery.

Our first cultural stop is the peaceful village of Telouet, where you’ll explore the lesser-known but captivating Kasbah of Telouet—a once-grand home of a powerful local family, rich with stories and faded beauty.

We then continue to the legendary Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village made entirely from earth and stone. This ancient ksar is a beautiful example of traditional southern Moroccan architecture and has inspired storytellers and filmmakers from around the world.

After a scenic lunch nearby, we head toward Ouarzazate, sometimes called the “Door to the Desert.” Here, you’ll have the chance to visit Atlas Studios, the largest film studio in Africa, and explore the Kasbah Taourirt, a well-preserved maze of earthen walls and rooms with decorative details that whisper of old dynasties.

Next, we journey through the palm groves of the Skoura Oasis, stopping to see the Kasbah Amridil, one of the best-preserved kasbahs in Morocco—perfect for those interested in architecture and rural life.

As the sun begins to set, we arrive at the Dades Gorges, where towering cliffs and winding roads create a dramatic natural backdrop. Enjoy dinner and spend the night in a cozy local guesthouse, tucked between the rugged canyon walls—an ideal place to relax and get ready for tomorrow’s discoveries.

Day 2: Dades Valley to Merzouga – Palm Groves, Ancient Towns & Sahara Magic

After breakfast, we leave the peaceful Dades Gorges behind and follow the scenic route through the Dades Valley, passing vibrant fields and small Berber villages nestled along the river. Our journey brings us to the Tinghir Oasis, where you’ll wander through lush palm groves and see how traditional life thrives in this green pocket of the desert.

We continue through the changing landscape toward the desert towns of Erfoud—famous for its fossil workshops and desert ambiance—and Rissani, a historic town once home to Morocco’s royal ancestors. Here, you’ll catch glimpses of old caravan markets and centuries-old traditions still alive today.

From Rissani, we head deeper into the desert until we reach Merzouga, the doorway to the breathtaking Erg Chebbi dunes. As golden sands stretch before you, you’ll mount your camel and trek into the heart of the dunes, just in time to witness a spectacular sunset over the Sahara—a truly unforgettable experience.

Your evening continues at a luxury desert camp, where a warm Moroccan dinner is served under the open sky. As night falls, relax by the campfire, listen to traditional music, and gaze up at the stars from your tent in the middle of the quiet desert.

Day 3: Sunrise Over the Dunes & Journey to Fez – From Sahara to the Middle Atlas

Rise early to witness the sunrise casting golden light over the Sahara—a peaceful and unforgettable moment as the dunes come alive in the morning glow.

After breakfast at the camp, enjoy a camel ride back across the sands to Merzouga, where your driver will be waiting to begin the next leg of your adventure.

The road to Fez is filled with changing scenery. First, you’ll pass through the Ziz Valley, a ribbon of greenery cutting through the desert, lined with towering date palms and traditional mud-brick villages—a perfect spot for scenic photos and a quick break.

As you climb into the Middle Atlas Mountains, the landscape shifts to cedar forests, rocky slopes, and cool breezes. Along the way, you’ll see quaint Berber towns and may even spot a few Barbary macaques in the wild.

Arriving in Fez by late afternoon, your journey concludes in one of Morocco’s most historic and vibrant cities—rich in culture, art, and tradition.
