5-Day Sahara Desert Tour from Fez to Merzouga and Back
Day 1: Arrival in Fez – Welcome to Morocco
Upon your arrival at Fez airport, a friendly driver will greet you and escort you to your hotel. Once checked in, you’re free to start discovering the city. Take a stroll through the legendary Fez Medina, one of the world’s largest and oldest walled cities. Wander its narrow alleys, marvel at medieval architecture, and explore lively artisan quarters.
In the evening, enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner and settle in for the night at your hotel.
Day 2: Fez – Ifrane – Azrou – Midelt
After breakfast, depart Fez and head south toward Ifrane, a pristine mountain town often dubbed the “Switzerland of Morocco” due to its alpine buildings and tree-lined boulevards. Pause for photos and a walk through this unique town.
Continue to the cedar forests of Azrou, home to Barbary macaques. You’ll have the chance to observe these curious monkeys in their natural habitat.
Travel through the stunning Middle Atlas Mountains, passing through small Berber villages and scenic landscapes before arriving in Midelt, a peaceful town known for apple farming. Dinner and overnight stay at a local hotel.
Day 3: Midelt – Errachidia – Ziz Valley – Erfoud – Merzouga
Today, journey deeper into southern Morocco. Drive through Errachidia and enjoy the sweeping views of the Ziz Valley, a green ribbon of date palms stretching along a deep gorge carved by the Ziz River.
Stop in Erfoud, a desert town famous for its fossil workshops and ancient marine relics. You’ll then arrive at the edge of the Sahara in Merzouga, where your camel awaits.
Begin your camel trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, soaking in the silence of the desert and the stunning desert sunset. Arrive at a traditional Berber camp where you’ll enjoy dinner, music around the fire, and an unforgettable night under the stars in a private tent.
Day 4: Merzouga – Return to Fez
Wake up early to witness the sunrise over the dunes, a truly magical experience. After breakfast and a refreshing shower back at the lodge, begin the return journey north.
Travel through Errachidia and the mountainous landscapes once again, arriving in Fez by late afternoon. Spend your final evening in Morocco enjoying dinner and a peaceful overnight stay at a hotel in Fez.
Day 5: Departure from Fez
After breakfast, your driver will transfer you to the airport for your return flight or onward journey—bringing your Moroccan desert adventure to a close.
